Temporary closure of day surgery unit at St George’s
Today (Wednesday, 12 July), we have taken the decision to temporarily close our day surgery unit at St George’s Hospital (Tooting).
There is currently a problem with the water supply to the unit so, as a precautionary step, we have closed the unit until further notice.
The patient daycase services affected include include gynaecology, plastics, trauma and orthopaedics, general surgery, urology, maxillofacial and dentistry. The Hand Unit has also been closed.
The Maxillofacial and Dentistry Outpatient Unit located on the 2nd floor of the building is also shut.
The water supply to the rest of the hospital is unaffected, and all other services – including the Emergency Department – are running as usual.
We would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused, and our teams spent this morning contacting those patients scheduled to attend for daycase procedures and appointments today, and for the rest of the week.
We will re-schedule any cancelled procedures or outpatient appointments as soon as we possibly can.
All patients scheduled to undergo urgent procedures will be treated in our main theatres, under the care of the same surgical team as originally planned.
Thank you for your patience, and we hope to re-open the unit as soon as possible.
If you are a patient booked for a daycase procedure or outpatient appointment this week and haven’t been contacted, please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 020 8725 2453.
