Stephen Jones has been appointed as the new Director of Corporate Affairs at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Stephen is currently Chief of Staff and executive lead for corporate governance at the General Medical Council.

Prior to this, Stephen worked as Stakeholder Engagement Director on Co-operation and Competition policy, at Monitor (now NHS Improvement).

He has previously worked as Senior Private Secretary to the Minister for Quality at the Department of Health, and has also held a number of senior NHS policy roles within the department.

He is a graduate of Warwick University and has a PhD from Emmanuel College, University of Cambridge.

As Director of Corporate Affairs at St George’s, Stephen will have overall responsibility for a broad portfolio including governance, secretariat, legal services, public engagement, Foundation Trust membership and communications.

Stephen will also oversee the Board Assurance Framework, and ensure the Trust is compliant with all national statutory guidelines and procedures.

Jacqueline Totterdell, Chief Executive at St George’s since May 2017, said: “I am really pleased Stephen will be joining the executive team at St George’s. He will help bring much needed rigour to the organisation and how we function, and will play a key role in supporting our ambition to provide Outstanding Care, Every Time for our patients.”

Stephen said: “This is a really exciting opportunity for me, and a unique chance to help Trust staff improve healthcare for millions of people. St George’s has an incredible history and, whilst the challenges the organisation faces are significant, I can’t wait to get started and be a part of the team.”

Stephen’s start date is currently being agreed, and will be communicated in due course.
