The RTS award-winning – and 2019 BAFTA nominated – documentary series returns for an 18th series.

The hospital has one of the busiest A&E departments in Britain – under more pressure than ever. It’s a place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every day.

This episode – Roll with the punches – features Tania who is brought to resus after being knocked over by a car, Edwin who is rushed to A&E bleeding from a neck tumour and semi-professional footballer Lilli who arrives in the urgent care centre with a football injury.

Doctors are concerned that 40 year old Tania may have suffered life threatening injuries to her neck and spine after being knocked over crossing the road. As the medical team take urgent CT scans, we hear from her daughter Liliana about her mother’s extraordinary resilience after she emigrated to London from Madeira with a young family.

77 year old Edwin is rushed to resus bleeding from a tumour on his neck. As the medical team examine the wound, we hear from his partner Jeanette about how their romance blossomed in later life and how they dealt with a devastating health diagnosis. When a maxillofacial specialist arrives to plan the next stage of Edwin’s treatment, it forces the family to confront the very painful truth.

Semi-professional footballer Lilli has come to the urgent care centre after being elbowed in the face during a match. As they wait to be seen by the medical team, Lilli and her mum explain the incredible strength it has taken for Lilli to live the life she wants.
