New episode of 24 Hours in A&E: I’ll stand by you…
The RTS award-winning – and 2019 BAFTA nominated – documentary series returns for an 18th series.
The hospital has one of the busiest A&E departments in Britain – under more pressure than ever. It’s a place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every day.
This episode – I’ll stand by you – features stories of human compassion and kindness, in the most challenging circumstances and from the most unexpected sources.
71 year old Jeremy arrives at St George’s in an air ambulance after crashing his bicycle at speed. Doctors suspect a head injury and he is taken for urgent CT scans. As his sons, Ollie and Alex, make their way to the hospital, they describe their father’s unwillingness to grow old and the importance of a strong family unit in the face of unbearable pain and loss.
82 year old Allen has injured his chest after a dizzy spell caused him to fall down 13 steps. As his son, Graham, waits nervously for doctors to assess the injuries to Allen’s chest, Graham describes his Dad’s strength and resilience in carrying the family through dark times and how precious the bond between father and son can be.
In urgent care, café worker Amy comes to the rescue of complete stranger James who smashed a bottle of wine into his arm while skateboarding. An unlikely friendship develops.
