St George’s celebrated the launch of a new menu for the children’s ward this week.

Children were invited to the playroom to enjoy a range of activities – including icing cakes, drawing their favourite meals and of course sampling the food on offer!

The introduction of the new menu highlights the improvements made to the meal service. It is also part of Dietitians Week (8-12 June 2015) which aims to highlight the value of dietitians and their work.

The new menu has been introduced thanks to Samuel, a patient at St George’s, who had a real passion for making changes to the children’s menu.

Sadly Samuel passed away last year but his dad, Martin Leib, has been supporting and championing changes with the trust through Samuel’s Charity. The new menu is a fitting tribute to Samuel that he started and will be continued.

The menus include more options as requested by children on the wards, including fresh fruit, picnic hampers and other dishes to give a wider choice at meal times.

In addition, Jill and Kashia from the sweets department at Apetito, the meal provider, attended the launch to see first-hand the difference they make to the children.

This is part of a continual improvement programme, highlighting the fantastic joint working between departments and partner organisations.

Special thanks to Mitie, Apetito, the nursing, dietetics and facilities teams, play specialists and of course the children on the wards along with their parents, for their involvement in this project.
