Naaz Coker, chair of St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust announces the interim chief executive appointment.

Naaz said:

“On behalf of the trust board I am pleased to announce the appointment of Peter Coles as interim chief executive. Peter, who will take up the post on Monday 6th June, has had a long and distinguished career in the NHS. He has worked at trust, foundation trust, primary care trust (PCT), regional and Department of Health levels and in acute, mental health and primary care services.

“Peter is experienced at working as an interim chief executive most recently at Medway NHS Trust and Epsom and St Helier NHS Trust. He also has first hand experience of the integration of acute and community services. During the past twelve months Peter was programme director of community services integration for Guy’s and St Thomas’s NHS Foundation Trust, Lambeth PCT and Southwark PCT.

“Peter will work with the board while we search for a permanent appointment. I would like to take this opportunity to thank Patrick Mitchell for his support over the past few weeks during which time he has been the trust’s acting chief executive.

“This is a crucial time for St George’s Healthcare as we work to deliver on our financial targets for 2011/12. Patient safety and quality of care must remain top priorities but the long-term future of the trust is dependent on our being a financially stable organisation.”
