St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has published its 2010/11 annual report and accounts.

The report highlights how the trust is living its values, launched in April 2010 – excellent, kind, responsible, respectful – which set out the standards of behaviour expected throughout the organisation.

Interim chief executive Peter Coles said:

“I hope people will enjoy reading about how our staff are living our values and our achievements during 2010/11. The past year has given us much to be proud of. We have seen many exciting developments that have helped to strengthen the trust’s reputation as a leading provider of world class care, whilst recording a financial surplus for the fourth year in a row.

“Last year St George’s Hospital was rated the best in the country for stroke services and we saw the opening of the hyper-acute-stroke-unit which provides round the clock access to emergency stroke care for patients from across southwest London and Surrey. The last 12 months have also seen St George’s Hospital established as the major trauma centre for southwest London, dealing with around 85 of the most serious and complex injuries each month.

“In October 2010 the trust also become responsible for delivering a range of specialist community services provided across the borough and in people’s homes following our integration with Community Services Wandsworth. This merger is giving us the opportunity to redesign services and improve the healthcare choices available to local people by providing more care in their own homes, reducing unnecessary admissions to hospital and helping patients leave hospital as soon as it is safe for them to do so.”
