St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has appointed Harbhajan Singh Brar as its new Director of Human Resources and Organisational Development.

Harbhajan will join St George’s next week on Tuesday, 2 May. He joins St George’s from Sodexo UK, where he has been Director of Human Resources since 2011.

Harbhajan has more than 30 years’ experience in human resources, including director roles at a number of healthcare organisations including the Department of Health and Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

He also designed and successfully delivered a major financial recovery strategy at Barnet and Chase Farm NHS Hospitals Trust.

He has been a Fellow of the Chartered Institute for Personnel Development (FCIPD) for more than 20 years, and has held several non-executive appointments including at NHS Employers.

Harbhajan has also served as a local magistrate and has been a Trustee of several local charities.

In 2016, Harbhajan was listed in the Top 100 Black Asian Minority Ethnic executives across the USA, Ireland and the UK, published in the Financial Times.

Gillian Norton, Chair of St George’s, said: “Harbhajan will be a crucial member of the executive team here at St George’s. We need to empower and champion our staff, particularly at this challenging time for the organisation, and Harbhajan’s experience and proven track-record will help us greatly in this regard.”

Harbhajan said: “I am really excited to be joining the team at St George’s. Staff will be crucial in getting the Trust back on track, and we need to support them in their roles. They are the people who our patients trust, and who make St George’s a great place to be associated with; so I am looking forward to getting started.”

Mark Gammage, who joined the Trust last year as HR Advisor to the Board, will continue in a supportive role at St George’s until the end of June.
