TOOTING’s emergency services have chosen St George’s as the beneficiary of their combined effort to pull a 3350 kg ambulance through the streets of Tooting.

As part of the Balham and Tooting Community Association (BATCA) Midsummer Fun Day on Saturday 21 June, Tooting Fire Station, Tooting Safer Neighbourhood Team and the London Ambulance Service are joining forces to raise money for St George’s Hospital Charity.

The pull will start at around midday from the hospital’s Atkinson Morley Wing, taking in Blackshaw Road, Tooting High Street and the Broadway. They’ll be shaking buckets for your loose change on the day or you can sponsor them online at www.justgiving.com/tootingambulancepull. They hope to arrive at the Fun Day in Broadwater Road at about 1 pm, where they will be greeted by local MP, Sadiq Khan, Shaykh Gani from the Balham Mosque and Tooting Islamic Centre, the Bishop of Kingston and the Mayor of Wandsworth, Councillor John Farebrother. The newly inaugurated Mayor of Wandsworth has chosen St George’s Hospital Charity as one of his two “Charities of the Year”.

All the money raised from the ambulance pull will go towards improving the quality of the environment at St George’s, whilst the funds raised by the Fun Day will go to support equipment for the children’s intensive care unit at the hospital.

The fun day is a new summer event for Tooting, staged by BATCA in co-operation with the Gatton Muslim primary school and St Augustine’s Church, both in Broadwater Road. And the ambulance pull is also a first – the first time that our local heroes from the emergency services have pulled together to raise awareness and money for St George’s Hospital Charity.
