Group Chief Executive of St George’s Trust and Epsom & St Helier, Jacqueline Totterdell, will be the first Abseiler to go over the edge of the Pelican Hotel this Thursday morning in the 3 day- Abseil for St George’s Hospital Charity.

Jacqueline will be leading the charge, followed by over 130 other Team George’s Abseilers including patients, relatives, staff members and community supporters.

Jacqueline has already smashed her original fundraising target and is on her way to reaching £1,000, contributing to the overall income raised which currently stands at over £26,000. All funds raised will go towards supporting patients, their families and the staff who care for them in our hospitals.

Amerjit Chohan, CEO of St George’s Hospital Charity said:

‘We are so pleased that after 2 years of delays due to the Covid Pandemic, that our Abseil for George’s is able to go ahead. We couldn’t be more excited to cheer on our brave fundraisers and I am particular excited to cheer on Jacqueline, as our first abseiler, from the safety of the ground- as I am afraid of heights!’

The abseil is a fitting way to celebrate Jacqueline’s fifth anniversary of joining St George’s Trust as Chief Executive, whilst raising vital funds to support the work the Charity does.

In a recent speech Jacqueline reflected on the support of St George’s Hospital Charity throughout the pandemic saying:

“There’s no doubt that it’s been incredibly challenging, but the charity was there supporting us every step of the way – on the wards, meeting staff, coordinating, and handing out the generous gifts and food from the public. So, thank you to the charity and to all of you for supporting them so they could support us. It means everything.”

When speaking to Jacqueline about the upcoming descent she said:

“I was recently reminded how high the descent is and started to feel a little nervous. But the staff at my hospitals mean the world to me so I’m determined to face my fears, to take on the abseil and raise as much money as possible for the charity.

“Thank you to everyone who is supporting and sponsoring me and good luck to everyone taking part.”
