No one gets to stay young forever………………so we want to do our best to help you make the most of youth.

We realise having kidney disease as a young person can be challenging especially without the right support.  Our young persons’ service supports 16 to 30 year olds who have some form of kidney problem and attend our adult renal unit. This maybe following transfer from a paediatric unit of a new presentation as a young person to the adult unit. The service provides support and advice on a wide range of topics, and aims to help you with other challenges that you may be facing alongside your health condition. We provide support on a one-to-one or through group activities.

Addressing Specific Individual Needs

Our young adult worker Jeunita Jones provides one-to-one support with various challenges our patients may be facing, including:Referrals can also be made to our renal psychologist Gulshan Valzir if required

  • Advocacy and empowerment

Group activities

We arrange social events throughout the year for young people to come along to, have fun and meet other young adults who are in a similar situation. Activities have included weekend trips,  ten pin bowling, seaside trips, ice skating, meals out or attending events in London. If you have any ideas for future events, please feel free to call or text the Young Adult Mobile Number

Young Adult Clinic

We hold a young adult clinic on a Monday afternoon which open to young adults with renal disease and is run by Dr Joyce Popoola the lead Consultant for Renal Transition and Young Adult Care and Jeunita Jones our Young Adult Worker. This clinic provides the opportunity to meet other young adults with renal disease and to hold consultations in a more relaxed fashion

Young Adults on Haemodialysis

At George’s we make every effort to get our young adults on the same dialysis shift and also work hard to enable our young ones achieve their life goals in education and career development as well as maintaining a social life. Our young ones develop lasting friendships and provide support networks for each other. How do I access the young persons’ service?
