***We have recently announced some temporary changes to cardiac surgery services at St George’s. Please click here for more information.***
We are dedicated and proud to care for the patients and their families; delivering a very high quality standard of care is our main aim. Every year, we perform approximately 1100 heart operations at St. George’s Healthcare. Approximately half of these are heart valve operations.
Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery
Coronary artery bypass graft surgery is an operation which is performed when one or more of the heart vessels have narrowings or are blocked. This operation can be performed using a heart-lung machine (cardiopulmonary bypass) or can be done as ‘beating heart’ surgery or using a mini-bypass machine. All these techniques are used widely at our Unit. Various conduits / vessels are used to perform the bypass operation.
