Directory of service for SCD referral criteria (DOS) 

Social Communication Disorders (SCD) / Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) 

Internal referral criteria 

1. Referrals only accepted from a neurodevelopmental paediatrician at St George’s NHS Foundation Trust 

1. Child has a GP in Wandsworth 

1. Child is aged under 8 years old 

1. The child has had a developmental assessment, and it is clinically decided that further exploration of their social communication and interaction differences is needed AND consent has been signed by parent 

• Consent form (to be submitted with referral) 

• Referrals to be sent to Paediatric.SCDAdmin@stgeorges.nhs.uk, tel: 020 8725 4854 

External referral criteria 

• Referrals only accepted from professionals involved with child (school SENCO, GP, Health Visitor & NHS Therapists, private paediatricians) 

• Child has a GP in Wandsworth 

• Child is aged 

• 5 years to their 8th birthday (exclude children with unexplored developmental difficulties/delay and/or current therapy input) 

• up to the 8th birthday who has had a paediatric neurodevelopmental assessment by a paediatric community or neurodevelopmental doctor (for example different borough)  

• Child is presenting with social communication and interaction differences
  
• The following forms have been completed and should be submitted with the referral 
  • Referral form for health care professionals directly to the SCD pathway
  • Parental questionnaire 
  • School questionnaire

Re-referral criteria 

• Re-referrals only accepted from professionals involved with child (school SENCO, GP, Health Visitor & NHS Therapists, private paediatricians) 

• Child has a GP in Wandsworth 

• Any child up to their 8th birthday who has previously been referred to the service previously (through either internal or external criteria). 

• The following forms have been completed and should be submitted with the referral 

• • Re-referral form for health care professionals directly to the SCD pathway 

• • Parental questionnaire 

• • School questionnaire 

• • SRS 2 online forms (the links will have already be sent to the family & school at initial referral)

Also includes the following categories: 

• Children referred previously, whose parents/school did not return forms in time 

• Children who were referred, considered at Triage and discharged 

• Children who were referred, had assessment and did not meet the threshold for diagnosis
