Congratulations to Edi Lorusso, Thrombosis Clinical Nurse Specialist at St George’s, who has been shortlisted for the Rising Star award in the Nursing Times Awards 2020.

Edi is one of twelve nurses from across the country who have been shortlisted for the award, which aims to recognise a nurse working in the NHS or independent sector who has been qualified for less than five years.

The Nursing Times explains that the Rising Star award is for a nurse who ‘demonstrates exceptional qualities that embody the best of nursing and the leadership skills to inspire others to follow their example’.

This is Edi’s second award nomination in recent weeks, as she was also nominated for a Trust Values award by one of her patients. The patient nominated Edi for being friendly, personable and going above and beyond to reassure them during their first pregnancy.

Edi’s role involves looking after pregnant women and patients at risk of blood clots, collecting data on hospital-acquired thrombosis, organising educational campaigns, running teaching sessions and supporting colleagues with preventing venous thromboembolism – a condition in which a blood clot forms in the veins.

Edi said: “To be considered for the Rising Star award is a real honour and I feel very privileged just to be shortlisted. I’m equally proud of my Trust Values award, and to have been nominated by one of my patients makes it even more special!”

The winners of the Nursing Times Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on Wednesday 14 October 2020. Good luck, Edi!
