Hospital and RMHC scoop Wandsworth Design Awards
The two hospital schemes to win awards are the Dragon Children’s Centre, which has won a Commendation Award for Access, and the A Walk on the wild side garden, which receives an Access Award. RMHC has won an Access Award for its Tooting House.
The Wandsworth Design Awards have been running since 1999 and aim to give public recognition to recent local building projects that make a positive contribution to the local environment and set a good example to others.
Two out of the three schemes (Dragon Children’s Centre and the A Walk on the wild side garden) were funded entirely by the St George’s Hospital Charity as part of its ongoing commitment to bring real benefits to patients and staff in areas where the St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is not able to make grants or cannot stretch its budget.
Gill Noble, Chairman of St George’s Hospital Charity, said “We work closely with the Trust to decide how to allocate our charitable monies and to prioritise the projects we support. We were delighted to be able to fund these two excellent projects, and even more delighted that they have been recognised by these very special awards.”
The third scheme (Ronald McDonald House) was funded by Ronald McDonald House Charities, with a contribution from St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The House on the hospital site in Tooting opened in December 2005 and provides eight ensuite bedrooms for families with children in hospital. It aims to help keep family units together during emotionally difficult times.
