Get Set 4 Surgery
Welcome to our information pages for the Macmillan and St George’s Cancer Partnership prehabilitation programme. This is an award winning initiative that is now being offered to all of our patients undergoing major surgery here at St George’s. Starting as a pilot programme initially for major cancer surgery patients in 2018, after a very successful year the initiative has been rolled out to include non-cancer major surgical patients also. Prehabilitation is all about good preparation for your body and mind prior to surgery. Our aim is to help our patients prepare for their forthcoming operation by improving both their physical and emotional wellbeing in order to improve overall recovery and outcomes.
We run these weekly sessions for patients and their chosen “plus one” to attend an interactive afternoon of talks and discussions delivered by our team of in house specialists; anaesthetists, surgeons, physiotherapists, dieticians, psychologists and nurse specialists. We cover topics such as activity, nutrition, psychological support, what to expect before, during and after your hospital stay.
