There are seven genetic counsellors working within the department. The counsellors have either a background in nursing or have undergone specific advanced training in genetic counselling. All have experience working with families who have a genetic condition. They are available to help individuals to understand information about their genetic condition and the options open to them so that they can make the decisions that are best for them. The department is a recognised training centre for genetic counsellors.
Further information on training to become a genetic counsellor may be found at www.agnc.org.uk.
