The department of cardiothoracic surgery and cardiology at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, and St George’s, University of London, offers all aspects of surgery of the heart and lungs and cares for patients with cardiological problems fit for tertiary referral.

The purpose of the unit is to provide excellent healthcare for local people and those who need specialised services wherever they live.

We continue to strive for clinical excellence, providing care of a very high standard for patients requiring specialist treatment.

We are dedicated and proud to care for our patients and their families; delivering a very high quality standard of care is our main aim. Every year, we perform approximately 1100 heart operations at St George’s University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Approximately half of these are heart valve operations.
