- Abnormal invasion of the placenta (Edwin was the lead investigator of the team that developed a new conservative surgical technique, ‘The Triple P Procedure for Percreta’)

Edwin gained his primary medical degree in India and had his postgraduate medical education in Sri Lanka and in the UK. He obtained Gold Medals in both Master of Surgery Part 1 & Part 2 Examinations and was part of the Clinical Leaders Network and Maternity Services Improvement Board. He was appointed as a Visiting Professor in Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the Tianjin Central Hospital for Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Tianjin Province, China in 2016. Edwin conducts several CTG and STAN Master classes each year in the UK and across the globe. He is a peer reviewer for over 10 journals and is the current Consultant Editor for Labour and Delivery for the Global Library of Women’s Medicine (GLOWM). He has also been involved in conducting Service Assessments and conducting external reviews of Maternity and Perinatal Deaths.
He has been the course lead, course coordinator and co-organiser of courses at RCOG, St George’s Medical School and for the charity Baby Lifeline. He is an accredited Expert Witness and holds the Cardiff Law School Expert Witness Certificate and provides approximately 20 medico-legal reports every year to assist the Courts. Edwin was a member of the multidisciplinary fetal monitoring team which won the HSJ Value Award in 2016 and the BMJ Clinical Leadership Team of the Year Award in 2017.
Edwin has been on the Editorial Board of National e-learning for Health on Fetal Monitoring and was a Member of the 3-member Guideline Development Group which revised the FIGO Guidelines on CTG in 2015. He has published several abstracts in National and International Scientific Meetings and over 80 Chapters in Textbooks and Review articles in peer-reviewed scientific journals. His special interests include intrapartum fetal heart rate monitoring (CTG and Fetal ECG or STAN), operative vaginal delivery and massive postpartum haemorrhage, including abnormal invasion of the placenta.
