Clinical interests

Miss Dawson has a range of clinical interests, with duties including progressing tracheostomy care from the intensive care unit (ICU) through to the ward and outpatient care.

She also works to wean patients from mechanical ventilation as well as dealing with the rehabilitation of longer term ICU patients.

Deborah is also involved in ensuring that effective infection control measures are adhered to, especially in areas such as ventilator associated infection.

Professional profile

Miss Dawson qualified as a nurse in 1985, completing her ICU course at Charing Cross Hospital. Having worked in several general and speciality ICUs, she was appointed to the consultant nurse post in critical care at St George's in 2001.

In addition to this post she is currently an honorary research fellow for Kingston University, a visiting lecturer and research supervisor for the MSc in critical care for Imperial College, London and editor of theĀ Journal of Intensive and Critical Care Nursing.
