Clinical interests

Dr Wei has been a consultant in paediatric endocrinology and honorary senior lecturer at St George’s University Hospital since 2013.

She manages children and adolescents with

  • General endocrine problems such as disorders in growth, puberty, adrenals, thyroid and calcium metabolism; diabetes insipidus and endocrine complications of obesity
  • Endocrine problems due to underlying haematological conditions e.g. thalassaemia and haematopoietic stem cell transplantation
  • Diabetes up to the age of 19 years, including patients with Type 1, Type 2, monogenetic and secondary diabetes

Professional profile

Dr Wei obtained her primary medical qualification at the University of Birmingham in 2000. She received her postgraduate Paediatric training in the South West of England and sub-specialty training in Paediatric Endocrinology in 2007-2010 at the University Hospital of Wales and the Bristol Royal Hospital for Children. This was followed by doctoral research under the University of Bristol investigating the mechanism of impaired glucose tolerance in survivors of childhood leukaemia treated with haematopoietic stem cell transplantation. Her publications have included work into late effects of childhood cancer survivors, pubertal problems, diabetes, insulin resistance and obesity in childhood.
