Shining a spotlight on our Allied Health Professionals (AHPs)
On Monday 14 October we celebrated National Allied Health Professionals (AHPs) Day – an opportunity to recognise and reward our AHP colleagues for their contribution to the health and wellbeing of our patients.
At St George’s there was a special presentation about the important role of our AHPs, a bake-off style challenge and a poster competition – all designed to reflect the creativity and resourcefulness of the work AHPs are involved in.
Awards were also presented to AHPs who’ve gone above and beyond in their roles over the past year – congratulations to all our winners!

• AHP Team Player of the Year: Evanna Leavy, Specialist Dietitian
• AHP Team Player of the Year: Jonathan Da Costa, Specialist Physiotherapist
• AHP Profile Raiser of the Year: Eibhlin Cleary, Specialist Neuro Speech & Language Therapist
• AHP Innovator of the Year: Kate Peacock, Paediatric Occupational Therapist
• AHP Research Champions of the Year: Kirsty Harwood and Sarah Latham, Research Physiotherapists
• AHP Demonstrating Patient Kindness: Iwona Klimek-Haponik, Therapy Technician covering Hand Therapy and Neuro Outpatients
• AHP Event Best Project Showcase Poster: Speech & Language Therapists on Cavell Ward
• AHP Event Bake off winners: Lauren Forder, Diagnostic Radiographer and T&O Trauma team
Gemma Stott, Acting Chief Therapist and AHP Lead, said: “I am hugely proud of our AHPs and all the work that they do – we can see the difference they make to the patients we look after.”
Speaking at the event, Jacqueline Totterdell, our Chief Executive, said: “The range of care we provide across all our sites is phenomenal and would not be possible without the different groups of AHPs we have here. I know you all go above and beyond every day to deliver outstanding care – so a big thank you to all of you.”
At St George’s, we have nine out of 14 AHP groups: Dietitians, Occupational Therapists, Operating Department Practitioners, Orthotists + Prosthetists, Paramedics, Podiatrists, Physiotherapists, Radiographers and Speech & Language Therapists.
