Congratulations to Professor Hannah Cock, who received the European Academy of Neurology (EAN) service award, for her outstanding contribution towards improvement and expansion of the educational activities of the EAN.

Hannah is the first woman to have received the award since the EAN was founded in 2014 and she was made an honorary ‘Fellow of the EAN’. The EAN brings together Europe’s best clinicians, educators and scientists in the field and aims to promote neurological excellence in Europe and across the world, leading to better patient care and outcomes.

Professor Cock served as Chair of the education committee to EAN in 2014, before stepping down in 2018.

During this time, she helped to develop and embed e-learning materials and tools, as well as carry out a complete overhaul of the quality assurance procedures for live educational events, research training fellowships, clinical experience fellowships and CME-related e-learning. These have now developed into an entirely separate quality assurance and ethics committee reporting directly to the Board.

Professor Cock said: “This award is a great honour for me; it recognises the work I have done over the last few years to make improvements to the education programme for all EAN members. St George’s has supported me throughout this work and I am now in a position to share the experience and expertise I have gained as a result of my experience with EAN.”

Dr Niran Nirmalananthan, our Clinical Director for Neurosciences said, “Many congratulations on behalf of the department to Hannah on this prestigious and well-deserved award. Hannah has led undergraduate education in neurology at St George’s for many years. In her EAN role she has been instrumental in developing a unified educational framework for neurology across Europe, and also getting the department established as a host for visiting fellows.”
