This episode focuses on the family bonds that carry people through tough times.

64 year old Mohammed is rushed to St George’s after being hit by a pizza delivery motorbike. Consultant Will is concerned he may have a pelvic fracture, which could seriously affect his mobility and if the fracture hits a major artery, can be life threatening. His son Tom went to see his father at the scene of the accident and followed his father to St Georges to be by his side. Tom reflects ‘when you are younger you think your Dad is superhuman. When this happens, you realise he isn’t invincible…’

A sneak peek in to this Wednesday’s 7th December heart-warming and heart-breaking episode “Time of Our Lives”

This episode focuses on the bond between families and what holds them together through thick and thin. 84 year old John is rushed to St George’s after losing control of his car and crashing into a road sign. His wife Gwynaeth was having a meal out with the WI when she was told the news of his accident “I was asked to go to the desk to see somebody, and the somebody was this police officer”. After bullseyeing his car windscreen, John’s blood pressure drops dangerously low and doctors declare a “Code Red,” giving him an emergency blood transfusion.

St George’s study into aortic aneurysm repairs published

A study led by a team at St George’s has shown that surgeons in England operate significantly less often on aortic aneurysms in the population than in the US, and that the death rate here in the UK for the condition is over twice that in the States.

The results have been published in the New England Journal of Medicine, which is one of the most influential medical journals in the world.

Our non-emergency patient transport services are provided by G4S, an external company.

G4S provide non-emergency patient transport services for patients accessing treatment at St George’s, St John’s Therapy Centre and Trevelyan House

The GMB Union is planning three days of industrial action next week from 00.01 hours on Tuesday 22 November through to 23.59 hours on Thursday, 24 November.

A sneak peek in to this week’s episode “Dear Heart”

Wednesday 23 November Channel 4 at 9pm see’s fifty two year old Mark rushed to St George’s by air ambulance after a road traffic collision that threw him from his motorbike and left him suffering a cardiac arrest. Emergency doctors fight to keep him alive and when he arrives in A&E, Consultant Paul escalates his condition to ‘Code Red’ giving him an emergency blood transfusion.

St George’s Hospital’s thrombectomy service first in UK

St George’s is now the first hospital in the UK to have a fully staffed 24/7 thrombectomy service for acute stroke.

The service the Trust provides covers the south London area, as well as parts of Surrey and Kent.

Thrombectomy is a surgical procedure to remove blood clots blocking blood flow to the brain and restore blood flow to the affected area.

Dad makes phenomenal effort to raise money for fetal medicine department!

Craig is raising money for the New Kit Appeal on behalf of the Fetal Medicine Department at the hospital. The kit costs £25,000 and Craig has raised £2,500 towards it. Craig’s twin sons were delivered safely two years ago when they needed an operation in the womb to allow blood to flow equally to both twins. Without the operation and expertise of the Fetal Medicine team, one or both babies could have died.
