Supervision, Measurement and Mentorship in Training

The SuMMiT course is a new style training course for all clinical and educational supervising consultants as well as senior trainees who are soon to embark on their consultant career. The course replaces the previous ASET course and covers all the required learning for the GMC professional development framework.

The morning session explores trainee performance and competence and how this can be measured. Feedback as a tool for increasing insight at different levels of competence is also covered with interactive small group sessions.

The afternoon session continues with a greater focus on mentorship and coaching techniques and managing situations when things go wrong for your trainees.

Knowing how to support trainees in difficulty is an essential skill for an effective supervisor and we will discuss techniques and resources that can help. We will be undertaking some short coaching/mentoring sessions so please bring along ideas/issues for discussion.

The day closes with some top tips for getting your local induction programme right and some resources to ensure that you are up to date with newer opportunities for your trainees such as support for return to work.
