Pain self-care advice

Take pain medication regularly and as prescribed. If your pain is not relieved or if you are experiencing new pain that was not there previously, contact your CNS or the Acute Oncology service.

It is very important that you talk to your chemotherapy team about your pain. They cannot know how much pain you have unless you tell them. Similarly, if the painkillers you are taking are not working, let your chemotherapy care team know about this.

Use distraction activities – reading, listening to music, watching television, visualisation, etc.

Rest at regular intervals.

Pace your daily activities.

If your symptoms persist please contact your CNS or the Acute Oncology service

Complementary and alternative therapies may help. Always consult with your chemotherapy team about it though before starting anything new.
