The Cardiothoracic Critical Care unit comprises of CTICU and CTICU A. It has a total of 21 specialist critical care beds. We have an approximate 50:50 split between elective and emergency activity which commonly includes:

  • Cardiac Surgery
  • Thoracic Surgery
  • Vascular Surgery
  • Cardiology
  • Advanced Respiratory Support
  • Chest Trauma

Working within the Critical Care Directorate the service is fully capable of caring and treating for any type of patient requiring multiple organ support and intensive care. We have a highly skilled multidisciplinary team that look after some of the sickest patients in the hospital.

Our ranges of therapies are broad and include:

  • Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump;
  • Oscillation/Nitric Oxide
  • Haemofiltration

We have an active audit team and an emerging research drive and contribute to national initiatives (such as ICNARC and NCBC).

Visiting times: 8am – 1pm & 3pm – 8pm. We have rest time for patients from 1pm – 3pm.
