The Urology Department provides acute and elective services to St Georges Hospitals and to an extensive tertiary network of NHS, private and overseas hospitals. Within its cancer network, it performs largest number of cancer related operations in the Trust. Cutting edge surgical technology, including the Da Vinci® robot, are employed to deliver a high standard of care to patients with kidney, bladder and prostate cancer.  The department is a European recognised robotic centre. The penile cancer team has the largest network of its kind in the UK and has the largest contemporaneous series of penile cancer patients worldwide.

The benign services are led by Endourology (stone surgery) which has an established local and tertiary network performing large volume upper tract surgery – approximately 80 PCNLs and over 300 flexi URS per annum. In addition it has close links with the cancer team providing diagnostic and therapeutic interventions for urothelial cancer and malignant ureteric obstruction.

The neurology team supports the neurosciences department at St George’s Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital and includes an established bladder Botox injections and male incontinence programme. Benign prostatic services include bipolar resection and enucleation, the new Urolift® system and laser treatment options.  All of the urology services have very significant co-dependencies within St George’s including uroradiology, general surgery, trauma/orthopaedics, obstetrics/gynaecology, vascular surgery, neuro/cardiac services, senior health, infectious diseases and intensive care.  Approximately 30% of surgical emergency admissions are Urological and this includes patients who are medically evacuated following major trauma incidents.
