Our department is comprised of Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners (APP), Orthopaedic Physiotherapy Practitioners (OPP), First Contact Practitioners (FCP), Musculoskeletal Physiotherapists, Physiotherapy Assistants and the Administration Team.

Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioners (APP)

Our MSK physiotherapists in these roles work with a high degree of autonomy, use complex decision-making within multi-professional teams. They assess complex musculoskeletal conditions and screen if a secondary care intervention is required.
They can provide treatment such as joint steroid injections. They work closely with Neurosurgery, Radiology, Rheumatology, Orthopaedics, General Practices and Pain services.

First Contact Practitioners (FCP)

Our MSK physiotherapists provides a First Contact Practitioner service, within General Practices, as a first point of contact for patients. They are qualified autonomous clinical practitioners who are able to assess, diagnose, treat and discharge a person without a medical referral – where appropriate.

Musculoskeletal (MSK) Physiotherapists

Our MSK physiotherapists are skilled in assessment and treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal problems from simple sprains to complex acute and chronic conditions. They will work with you to achieve your physiotherapy goals and return to your optimum functional level.

Physiotherapy Assistants

Physiotherapist assistants works alongside the physiotherapists, facilitating your rehabilitation journey through exercise classes, one-to-one exercise

Administrative Team

The administrative team process and book all referrals sent to the MSK department. They will check you in and out of your appointment and arrange follow-up appointments as necessary. Contact details can be found on the main page.

Students

As a teaching hospital, St. George’s Hospital Trust supports physiotherapy students in their education. You may have a student physiotherapist assessing and providing treatments for your condition, who are closely supervised by a qualified MSK Physiotherapist and will be working within the Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Outpatients Department. If you have any questions or would prefer to not be seen by a student, please tell a member of staff.
