Birth Reflection Service

You can arrange to speak to a Professional Midwifery Advocate (PMA) for a wide range of issues relating to your experience of pregnancy or birth.  This may include reflecting on a recent pregnancy or wanting to talk through a previous experience because you are pregnant or planning to be pregnant again.

This is a listening service predominantly, but PMA’s can answer questions that may arise and follow up on any issues that will improve the quality of our maternity service. At present, the sessions are mostly virtual via MS Teams.

What are Professional Midwifery Advocates (PMA)?

The aim of Professional Midwifery Advocates (PMA) is to support midwives in their clinical practice and advocate for our service users. There is a growing group of senior midwives that are qualified as PMA’s and you can request a birth reflection appointment with them at any time, even during a subsequent pregnancy.

The objective of the role is to provide restorative clinical supervision; advocacy and support quality improvement activities, education and leadership for midwives, also including reflective support for you if you have queries about your labour or birth.

How do I contact the PMAs?
