Mr Robert Hagger
Mr Robert Hagger has a long association with St George’s Hospital; he was a student at St George’s Hospital Medical school graduating in 1991 with a Distinction in Surgery from the University of London. Subsequently he has worked as a house officer, senior house officer and surgical registrar at St George’s Hospital. His research into functional bowel disease was performed at St George’s Hospital for which he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine by the University of London in 2003. His higher surgical training was undertaken in the Southwest Thames Region.
Mr Hagger was appointed Consultant Surgeon at St George’s Hospital and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s University of London in 2004.
Mr Hagger has clinics in colorectal and general surgery, inpatient and day surgery theatre lists and a lower gastrointestinal endoscopy list.
Mr Hagger is currently Care Group Lead for General Surgery. In addition to his clinical duties, he has a keen interest in both undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. He is currently an Educational and Clinical Supervisor for junior doctors in training having recently been Training Programme Director for Higher Surgical Training in general surgery in South West London. He is on the faculty for the Royal College of Surgeons courses; START, Basic Surgical Skills and Care of the Critically Ill Surgical Patient. He is a trainer on the JAG Basic Skills in Colonoscopy Course.

Clinical interests
Mr Hagger specialises in the management of colorectal cancer, functional bowel disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, colonic diverticular disease, pilonidal disease, anal conditions (including haemorrhoids, anal intraepithelial neoplasia and anal fissures), and anorectal sepsis.
As a general surgeon he manages emergency surgical conditions affecting the abdomen. He also performs surgery for complex abdominal wall hernias in association with colleagues from Plastic Surgery.
