Clinical interests

Mr Parag Patel is a Consultant Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon based at Kingston and St George’s University Hospital, London. He is Care Group Lead for ENT and Audiology at St. George’s University Hospital.  In addition to general ENT he has a special interest in allergy, otology including balance, tinnitus and diseases of the nose and sinuses. At Kingston Hospital, he is the paediatric and otology lead surgeon. Mr Patel treats a wide range of children’s ENT problems including glue ear, hearing loss, mastoid surgery, tonsillitis, nasal obstruction and obstructive sleep disorders.

Professional profile

He began his medical career in London, qualifying from Guy’s and St Thomas’s Hospitals Medical and Dental Schools.  He then undertook basic and higher surgical training in King’s College Hospital, Guy’s Hospital and St George’s hospital. After finishing his training, Mr Patel went overseas to Brisbane to work under the guidance of Professor Bill Coman and Assoc/Prof Ben Panizza to perform Head and Neck Skull base surgery.  Whilst in Australia, he volunteered for the Deadly Ears Foundation, travelling to rural areas performing operations for children living in deprived Aboriginal communities. Mr Patel returned to the UK for a further skull base and cochlear implant fellowship and locum consultant position in Addenbrooke’s Hospital Medical School, Cambridge.

Mr Patel regularly receives referrals from all over the UK and is one of a few skull base surgeons managing patients with skull base tumours that require endoscopic and microscopic approaches through the sinuses and ear bones into the brain. Mr Patel has performed over 5,800 operations.

Mr Patel has been the author of over 40 published peer reviewed research papers. He also reviews journals of Paediatric Allergy and Immunology and Skull Base subjects. He has presented (internationally and nationally) on 34 different specialist subjects of the ear, nose, throat and skull base. Mr Patel trains and mentors both registrars and overseas fellows that arrive from other countries to learn skull base access surgery and microsurgery of the ear.

Mr Patel is married to an orthodontist and they have three young sons. Mr Patel enjoys participating in long range rifle shooting and was selected to represent England in the 2006 Melbourne, 2010 Delhi, 2014 Glasgow and 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games. During these competitions, he won four Gold, a Silver and three Bronze Medals.
