Professional profile

Mr Harris qualified from Charing Cross and Westminster Medical School in 1996. He was awarded Bachelor of Science with Honours in Anatomy and Molecular Genetics from an intercalated course and research. He trained in surgery in West London before specialising in ENT. He received specialist registrar training in London, with the hub at St George’s Hospital and a period as a senior trainee at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children. He gained Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons and he is on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC no. 4308238).

During his specialist registrar training, he completed a degree course in Audio-Vestibular disorders at the Institute of Child Health resulting in a Masters of Science from The University of London. He was awarded a number of highly prestigious scholarships to support overseas Fellowships at two of the most internationally respected centres in their field: in Otology and Cochlear Implant surgery in Sydney, and in Paediatric ENT in Paris. His clinical focus at St George’s is preservative, functional, and restorative surgery using the latest technology to achieve the best possible hearing outcomes.

Mr Harris’s sub-specialist interests are:

-Cochlear Implants and other implantable hearing device surgery for a range of different hearing loss levels and types as part of the St George’s Hearing Implant Service team.
-Laser ear surgery, which allows clearance of cholesteatoma with a very low recurrence rate and preservation of the ossicular chain for better hearing outcomes; and preservation of the normal shape and function to provide a robustly dry ear.
-Minimally invasive ear surgery. Nearly all surgery performed to repair the ear drum, or the hearing mechanism, is performed through the ear canal without any incisions visible outside of the ear for quicker recovery and optimal aesthetic outcome.
-Endoscopic ear surgery, which improves the view in to the ear to help clearance of disease, and reconstruction of the ear.
-Mastoid reconstructive surgery to reconstruct the ear for patients who have a chronic discharge and hearing loss following previous mastoid surgery.
