Consultant in Acute Medicine Unit & Nephrology


Dr Stephan Brincat has been a specialist in General Medicine and Nephrology since 2011. Joining the Trust as a consultant physician in 2013, he became an honorary senior lecturer at St George’s University in the same year. His work is based at St George’s Hospital, London, providing medical care to acutely unwell patients as well as renal outpatients services on site and at the community haemodialysis unit at North Wandsworth.

Dr Brincat has clinical interests in Acute Medicine and General Nephrology, including acute kidney injury, chronic kidney disease, haemproteinuria, hypertension as well as haemodialysis and transplantation. He has undertaken research in anaemia of renal disease and has presented and published various projects both nationally and internationally.

As a teacher, he has maintained an active involvement in medical education at several levels, including junior doctors and undergraduate students teaching. He is a faculty member at the Simulation Lab at St George’s Hospital,  an examiner at St George’s Medical School and an examiner for the Royal College of Physicians.

Apart from his clinical and teaching duties, he has been a key driver in the development of acute kidney services with the setup, running and expansion of the novel Acute Kidney Injury clinic.
