New episode of 24 Hours in A&E: Go your own way…
The RTS award-winning – and 2019 BAFTA nominated – documentary series is back with its 19th series on Channel 4.
The hospital has one of the busiest A&E departments in Britain – under more pressure than ever. It’s a place where stories of life, love and loss unfold every day.
This episode features patients and staff members who forge their own path in life and strive to find happiness and fulfilment, against the odds.
Mark is brought to resus with a head injury after suffering an epileptic seizure. He is sent for an urgent CT scan to assess the damage to his brain while his mum and dad rush from their home in Kent. Mark suffers from a rare genetic condition called Noonan’s syndrome, causing learning difficulties and multiple health complications. His devoted parents describe the difficulties surrounding his birth and diagnosis and his extraordinary journey towards achieving independence.
Anastasia comes to urgent care with her son Patrick, who describes her as “the matriarch of the family.” The medical team examine the pain in her leg and whilst she is sent for x-ray to rule out a blood clot, Anastasia shares the story of her arrival to study in England from Nigeria, only for civil war to break out. Separated from her children, she had to find a way to rescue them from a refugee camp before it was too late.
Porter Chris, part of the emergency department for 25 years, shares his insights into the job as he goes about his day. He describes his own unconventional path from a Sunderland shipyard to the London raving scene – discovering happiness in unlikely places.
