Young patient unveils logo for our new Blue Sky Centre
A young patient whose design was chosen as the logo of our new Blue Sky Centre for Children and Young People’s Ambulatory Care recently came in to St George’s to unveil the logo.
Amna Parvez, 9, and her mum Nazia met with Paediatric Consultant Tony Hemeson and Health Play Specialist Hayley Gilburt (pictured).
The Blue Sky Centre will open in late February 2018. It aims to get more patients to the best place for their urgent care, sooner.
Tony said: “As well as improving patients’ experience, this will reduce admissions into our Emergency Department (ED) or onto a ward. We believe 10-15% of patients aged 0-16 currently attending ED have appropriate conditions for ambulatory care.”
Describing her design, which shows children around the globe, Amna said: “The idea came from thinking about the many children around the world who are poorly, and that we all have lots in common.”
Nazia said: “It was exciting to find out Amna’s picture had been selected for a brand new service that will help so many children in the future. All the staff at St George’s have been very kind to us when Amna has been treated here.”
It is anticipated 50 patients per week could be referred from ED to the service, along with direct GP referrals. A protocol for referrals has been developed by clinicians and operational staff.
A nominated consultant, plus dedicated nursing staff, will run the service each week, with a dedicated consultant room opposite the new facility.
