The radiology department will open its doors for a special open day on Saturday 28 January from 10am – 3pm at St George’s Hospital, Tooting.

The team is looking to recruit radiographers, senior radiographers, sonographers and mammographers with opportunities at Band 5, 6 and 7.

Those attending will be able to tour the department, see the full range of diagnostic and imaging equipment, meet staff at all levels and discuss the many opportunities available.

The diagnostic-radiology department covers four sites: St George’s Hospital in Tooting, Queen Mary’s Hospital in Roehampton, St John’s Therapy Centre and the Nelson Health Centre in Merton. There is also the breast imaging service which covers the symptomatic and breast screening service for south west London in the Rose Centre on the St George’s Hospital site. Vacancies are advertised via the NHS Jobs website with interested applicants able to visit the department at the open day and still have plenty of time to apply.

Radiographers joining at Band 5 – including those graduating in 2017 – are offered a structured 18 month progression to Band 6. The scheme includes CPD, training courses, experience of a wide range of modalities and interventional radiology work and training/mentoring new colleagues.

Sue Baillie, Chief Radiographer, said: “When we asked staff what the best things about working at St George’s are, they said it was a unique and very busy place. The people who work here, and the sheer breadth of radiology experience, make it special. That’s why we thought the best way to demonstrate this to potential recruits was open our doors and meet them.

“If you want a pace of work, opportunities to progress and real professional development, then the radiology department in one of the UK’s busiest acute trusts is the place to be.”

Training and development is high on the agenda in the radiology department, having recently invested in a Practice Educator role to provide structured learning and development routes for all staff.
